Web Board

The purpose of the web board is to get a dialogue going between all of us. Many times I'll find something interesting on the web that I feel you should see. At times I get e-mail from students tipping me off on an interesting url. So, I've set up a space where that can happen. I ask that you submit at least five of the following types of information during the semester. More points for students who use the board throughout the semester rather than waiting until the last minute.

1. A URL that you found interesting and others should see along with comments on why you want us to visit.

2. An intelligent response to something another student posted.

3. Discussion about something that came up in class or during a lecture.

I will also use this space to post any updates on class assignments, changes in the syllabus, and notification that homework is graded and posted.

BOOKKEEPING:

You will be assigned a user name and password automatically unless you add the class after the first day. In that case, send me an e-mail requesting that you be added to the board. Link to web board.

Initially your user name is your legal first name and last name with a space between the two (the name you used to register for classes.) Your password will be the last four digits of your social security number. Please change your password immediately.

Also, it is extremely important that we have your current e-mail address. Click on the "create personal directory" link in the lower right hand corner of the forum home page. Note: you don't need to enter any personal information except your e-mail address. The e-mail address can be from anywhere, UB, work, AOL, it doesn't matter as long as the e-mail gets to you.

If you have problems posting a message, please refer to the FAQ page linked off the log-in page. Also try reloading the page.

Assignments

Assignments will only be accepted on-line. Click on Assignments in the lower right hand corner of the forum home page. Click on the assignment from the menu. Right under the header "assignments" you see "submit work here". Click there and you'll get a screen with a white box that says "enter your plain text here". That's where you type. When finished click the submit button. You can go back and edit your work at any time. To see your grade. Open the assignment by following the same instructions. My comments and your grade will be posted in another box under the text you wrote. That box can only be seen by you and me.
