 “Pricing for Profits: Effective Proposal and Pricing Strategies”

Featuring: Emily Cohen and Eva Doman Bruck

~ Addressing the interests of principals in design firms, business consultant Emily Cohen

and design industry professional Eva Doman Bruck will offer their insight and expertise on writing winning proposals and creating smart pricing strategies that help you get paid what you’re worth. Each speaker will offer her unique perspective and experience on topics that are important to design firms, large or small. Together they will outline the steps necessary to for pre-qualifying clients, defining project parameters, and determining your personal pricing strategy. Along the way, they will provide additional information on a range of issues that designers encounter including retainers, usage rights, innovative ways to reduce fees and billing for consultants.

Emily Cohenis a nationally recognized consultant to creative professionals. She offers expertise on writing winning proposals and contracts, implementing effective staff project and studio management strategies, conducting client surveys and negotiating collaborative client and vendor relationships. She also works closely with designers---as part of a project’s initial research and planning phase---to conduct market research and client interviews.

Eva Doman Bruckhas previously worked for the International Design Conferencein Aspen, for Milton Glasser, Inc(twelve years), Landor Associates,Time Warner’s Full Service Network(interactive TV trial), and Hearst Interactive. She is a contributor to AIGA Professional Practices in Graphic Design and has published articles in Step-by-Step Graphics,Communication Artsand AIGA Journal. She is also a member of the staff at the School for Visual Arts and co-author of Allworth Press’ Business and Legal Forms,

Advanced HTML Friday, April 8, 2003  2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Langsdale Library, Room 200

Want to create web pages with complex-structured HTML content, online forms, cascading style sheets, image maps, rollover images etc.? You will learn how to apply your basic HTML skills to these features and also be introduced to latest HTML editor software.

To gain the most from this workshop, you should already have: *         Previously attended Basic HTML workshop or have experience and knowledge of the web environment/web browsers. *         Be comfortable working with Windows Operating Systems.

*The Advanced HTML class is a full day workshop with an hour break for lunch.  You must attend a Langsdale Basic HTML or Introduction to HTML workshop before participating in the Advanced HTML class.

In a cultural environment where the line between news and entertainment has blurred, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" has emerged as a place where serious political debate is open to irreverent but pointed interpretation. The Passion of Politics:  What is the Future of the Political Documentary?

Last year Michael Moore and the Swift Boat Veterans proved that there was a passionate audience for partisan documentaries. This panel discussion will address whether the politically charged films that made headlines in 2004 have transformed the craft and mission of the documentary. Panelists will consider if filmmakers are now expected to bring a strong political viewpoint to a project before filming starts and to appeal to a specific audience.
