If you have been given a key or given special access to use the labs, please read the following policies:

Using the lab

Leave the doors closed and locked while you are working. You may not allow others into the labs while you’re working and you are responsible for keeping others out of the lab.

Security

When you leave, please make sure that you have taken all items (books, portfolios, etc.) with you, and that all the doors are closed and locked.

Freelance work

If you are using the lab in freelance work (i.e. any work for hire or not directly school related), please see the Lab Director to work out an arrangement for supply usage and cost coverage. We don’t want to get into the position where someone is starting to run their own business from the lab, or using quantities of supplies for their own outside profit without covering any costs in the lab.

Computer policies

Do not leave any files, scans, or “Do not dump” folders on the hard disk. All files must be backed up and removed from the hard drive. Because of the number of users and the shrinking available space on the hard disks, this is extremely important.

Lab phone

Please do not use the phone for extended personal conversations, or expect to have personal calls sent to you in the lab. The lab phone is for lab business only. Only graduate assistants (or UB personnel) may use the lab phone. Unless it is an urgent emergency, students or other users must use the pay phone on the second floor.

System configuration

Never try and reconfigure any systems - software or hardware. When any irregularities occur (crashes, problems, etc.) leave me a detailed note explaining the problem, the program being used, the error message that was given (complete with any error number), and the system being used.

Color Printer, poster printer, and anything in the Server Room

These are available only during open lab hours, or by special arrangement.
