The Graphics Lab is located on the fourth floor of the Charles Royal
Building. The lab is a broad collection of technologies in support of
the programs of the School of Communications Design and the students
enrolled in them. Hardware and software are installed throughout 3 rooms
that allows work in desktop publishing, image creation, correction and
manipulation, audio and video post-production, animation and web design.
The labs include 38 state-of-the-art Macintosh computers kept current
with up-to-date software (such as Adobe's Creative Suite, Apple's Final
Cut, and Macromedia's Flash and Dreamweaver) spread throughout 3 working
areas. One room incorporates 21 stations, which when using the unique
screen sharing software, offer an efficient and dynamic classroom environment
for learning software techniques. All of the stations include CD/DVD-R
burners for data, audio, and/or video, as well as FireWire connections
for digital cameras, camcorders, and other equipment. Most of the workstations
are equipped with high-end photo-quality scanners.
Software resources for users include over 2000 fonts (and software
to help manage, preview and choose them), and an image database of over
100,000 royalty-free images, all of which are searchable and retrievable
via a single source database. Output options (printing) are all chosen
first for quality, and include fast high-resolution black and white
laser printers, a color laser printer (up to tabloid-extra size), and
a 36 inch 6-color Postscript color poster printer.

The Media Labs are located on the 3rd floor of the same building, and
offer several rooms designed for specific interests. The large audio
facility includes a variety of audio sources, and offers a 32x8x2 audio
console, which when combined with the 8 track digital audio recorder
and separate 8 channel digital console with Pro Tools software offer
the state-of-the-art in audio post-production. In addition, there's
a smaller audio room that offers several audio sources and an 8x2 digital
console with Pro Tools for smaller projects and assignments. Remote
recording gear (audi, video, lighting, etc...) is also available when
needed for assignments. Both rooms offer Final Cut video editing software.
A large classroom with tracked curtains, dimmable lighting, and cabling
access can double as a studio facility.
The labs are open seven days (and evening) a week, and are always staffed
with graduate assistants for students with questions or for troubleshooting
needs.
