Submission Guidelines
Welcome to Passager! We look forward to reading your submissions, but we ask that you follow our guidelines closely. For example, please submit in accordance to the dates listed below. We publish two issues a year, an Open Issue, and a Poetry Contest issue. Guidelines for both appear below. Also, we urge you to become familiar with Passager before submitting work. OPEN ISSUE for Writers over 50
Submit work: June 1 - September 15 (postmarked date)
Results announced (projected date): November, 2008
No reading fee for Open Issue submissions
- 3-5 poems, 50 lines max. per poem
or, Short fiction, all stories totaling no more than 4,000 words
or, one Memoir, or a series, 4,000 words max. in total
- Include cover letter and brief bio.
- Include name and address on all pages.
- All work must be accompanied by a Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope (SASE) with sufficient postage for reply/work return.
- No previously published work.
- Simultaneous submissions to other journals are okay, but please notify us if the work is accepted elsewhere.
- No email submissions, inquiries only.

Pass It On
Submit work: January 1 - September 15 (postmarked date)
Results announced (projected date): November, 2008
This section of the journal is devoted to our readers' personal stories on a given topic. Our current topic is:
FIRSTS
- Send us 250 words or less of informal prose about some "first" in your life. No poems or fiction, please.
- We accept both mail (1420 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21201)
and email (passager@saysomethingloudly.com) submissions for this section.
- We will try to publish as many as we can. Depending on space, we may need to edit. If your work is chosen, we'll contact you a month before publication (Winter 2008/09).
- Download and print our Pass It On flyer (Adobe Acrobat file) for yourself and your friends.

2009 Passager Poetry Contest
FOR WRITERS OVER 50
Submit work: September 1, 2008 - February 15, 2009 (postmarked date)
Results announced for 2008 contest (projected date): July, 2008
Winner receives $300 and publication.
Honorable mentions will also be published.
- Reading fee: $20, check or money order payable to Passager
Reading fee includes a one-year, two-issue subscription to Passager.
- Submit 3-5 poems, 50 lines max. per poem
- Introduce yourself with a cover letter and brief bio.
- Include name and address on every page.
- Include a Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope (SASE) for notification of winners.
- Poems will not be returned.
- No previously published work.
- Simultaneous submissions to other journals are okay, but please notify us if the work is accepted elsewhere.

Passager Books

Publication Policies
Once a piece is chosen for publication, Passager pays one contributor copy, plus offers a reduced rate for additional copies. We send out publication announcements to individuals and organizations at the author's request. Passager retains first-time rights.
