Professor Bert Smith has worked for over 30 years as a graphic designer in television and print. Bert earned a B.F.A., magna cum laude, from the Maryland Institute in 1973, and an M.A from UB's Nationally recognized School of Publications Design. Bert designed the first television news graphics for the Baltimore market while at WJZ-TV from 1974-76. His illustrations, design, and typography earned him coveted awards from the New York Art Directors Club, Print Magazine, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Graphic Design:USA, and the Printing Industries of America. An illustrator, design historian, and postcard collector, Bert is best known for his two books published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, Greetings from Baltimore and Down the Ocean. |
