Course Description:
A study of plays from major periods of world drama from
ancient times to the present, with the view of showing the literary movements
that shaped the forms and techniques of the modern theatre.
Course Requirements:
Reading journal* 20%
Three short papers (5-7 pages) 10% each
Take-home final examination 20%
Course participation (includes class discussion and online
discussion) 30%
(Reading journal: Write a one-page commentary on
something that interests or provokes you in each play≥a character, a theme or
idea, an aspect of the plot, the use of language, the setting∞whatever speaks
to you and piques your interest.
Make your comments as original as possible≥this part of the course
should reflect your personal reactions to the material we are reading.)
