Dante, Chaucer & Cervantes
NOTE: This is representative of the syllabi for this course. It

Objectives
•
To develop critical habits for thinking, reading,
discussing and writing.
•
To consider literature in the context of specific
historical settings.
•
To explore in depth the evolution of narrative assumptions
and practices in stories from three distinctive cultures.
•
To consider the pilgrimage as an informing principle of
narrative.
Course Requirements
•
Class participation demonstrating attention to the
interests and needs of classmates including regular attendance, responsiveness
of preparation of reading assignments, including weekly response to readings
and contributions to class discussions.
•
One paper (5 to 7 pp.) exploring a question raised by
your class preparation and participation.
•
Two examinations
Course
Grades
Grades will be the average of class
participation, weekly response to readings), the paper, and the two
examinations. Students with two or fewer absences will receive a grade for
participation at least equal to the average of their written work. Students
with more than three absences will receive failing grades for class
participation.
