NOTE: This is representative of the syllabi for this course. It is not necessarily the syllabus being used in any one semester.
This course is intended to
familiarize students with the process needed to manage design projects from
start to finish. Learning the other (and equally important) side to being a successful designer: getting clients,
generating proposals, building estimates, client vendor communication, creating
great work, producing the work, hiring photographers, printers, production
issues, print bidding, releasing jobs, and other relevant aspects. We will look
at working systems and discuss the differences between a one person shop and
larger organizations. Ultimately, the goal is to be prepared to function in a
design office doing multiple tasks.
Each class will begin with
discussion on principles and process. Followed by, student participation and
project evaluation. New
assignments will be discussed at the end of class.
Exercises: several
projects created to simulate a real work environment,Utilizing management
process and fundamentals. The projects must be turned in on time, they will be
discussed in class
(Late exercises will
receive no credit).
Group Research
Presentation: students will be asked to partner
together to create a research project. Each will be responsible for an equal
share of the project. A presentation of their findings will be made to the
class, who will rate and discuss
it. An outline of the presentation will be turned in to the professor.
Notebook: students are to create a binder to
organize all relevant information both provided by the instructor and gathered
individually.
